Leeds City Region Agrees GBP110m Deal
In response to much-needed housing in the Leeds City Region, a funding deal amounting to £110 million has been agreed with England’s housing and renewal quango.
The funding will be put towards major housing and regeneration schemes across the city of Leeds. After a meeting of the Leeds City Region (LCR) executive, a new partnership agreement was forged between the LCR and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The two entities will be working together for the improvement of existing housing and neighbourhoods as they build new energy-efficient homes and delivering housing across the city region.
According to a report by the Local Government Chronicle, Andrew Waller, the leader of the City of York Council, is now also the chair of the LCR-HCA joint board. He said that funding for the regeneration and building projects would take place over the next 12 months.
Mr Waller said: "The funding will help maintain momentum in delivering the affordable homes we need across the city region, supporting much needed jobs and training opportunities. The new funding powers devolved to the city region are a positive step in ensuring that major funding decisions to deliver local priorities are taken locally."
The funding marked an important point in the long-term investment priorities of the city region. The LCR-HCA board has developed an interim investment plan for housing and regeneration in the city region.
The partnerships will without doubt be an important indicator of the development health, and not only for Leeds. They could also set the tone for the rest of the country.
